Aircraft cable is wire rope that consists of individual steel wires, which are hot dipped
galvanized for corrosion resistance, and laid in a spiral around a central "king" wire to
form a strand. Strands are then twisted together to form a cable. There are two different
lay ups that

7X7

  • 7 x 7 cable in which 7 wires are used to make up 7 strands that are then twisted
    to form a cable.
  • This cable is relatively stiff, is less likely to kink and is less expensive than 7 x 19 cable.
  • Typical applications include wire for residential garage door systems.
  • 7X19

  • 7 x 19 cable uses 19 thin wires to make up each of the 7 strands that are then twisted
    to form a cable.
  • This cable is stronger and more flexible due to the high number of thinner wires.
  • The wire is particularly well suited for running over pulleys where the turn radius is
tight, such as a cable for a flag pole.
